Sri Lanka to build world's 5th tallest tower at Peliyagoda - LOTUS TELECOM TOWER
Sri Lanka is constructing the world's 5th tallest tower at Peliyagoda, a few kilometers from the Colombo city centre. The height of this tower will be 350 meters. It has a portion in the form of a Lotus Flower encompassing seven floors.
This eleven stories tower will have a revolving restaurant on the fourth floor of the Lotus Flower segment which crop up from the fifth floor. The fifth and sixth levels of the Lotus Flower segment are to be set apart for housing the machinery required for the maintenance of the tower. The Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Sri Lanka Mr. Anusha Pelpita the Tower will be a state-of-the-art facility which will become an icon of Sri Lanka.
The Tower will have a restaurant which will be a very unique one in which about 600 persons could partake meals at a time, viewing the scenery of Colombo city. The scheduled construction period of this tower is 3 years.
Construction work of this Tower is to be undertaken by a Chinese Firm, and its administration will be carried out by an Institution to be established for the sole administration of this tower.
It has also been planned to vest a part of the ownership of this tower the public through shares floated at the Colombo Stock Exchange.
As mentioned earlier this Tower will become the fifth tallest Tower in the world. The other four tallest towers are the Shanghai Tower, the Peking Tower, the Berlin Tower and the Tashkent Tower. Sri Lanka's Lotus Tower will be 26 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris the height of which is only 326 meters. The heights of the towers taller than the Lotus Tower are Shanghai Tower – 468 meters, the Peking Tower – 405 meters, the Berlin Tower – 375 meters and the Tashkent Tower in Uzbekistan – 368 meters.
The tender process related to the construction of the Lotus Tower at Peliyagoda is now being finalized.
The tower is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.
